Through the facilitation approach RCF-Crater Mountain Project is working closely with the people in terms of Natural Resource Management.
This is part of the Conservation Efforts in Crater Mountain Wildlife Management Area in terms of providing information to raise awareness so that the local people can sustainablly use their natural resources with out depleting them at a faster rate than the carrying capacity of the natural resources.
Some of the activities done are;

Mining documentary - titled 'Crater Mountain Story' was done by Martin Madena film maker based in Germany. RCF engaged him to do the documentary with the Crater people. The documentary was done is such a way that it depicts as well as illustrates how people and their lifestyles have changed with the presence of development such as mining, logging etc.
Crater Mountain Story was shown for the CMWMA people in October 2007. Feedback from the people was that they didn't want full scale mining on their land.

RCF engaged the Niugini Pictures to film the whole drama so that DVD
could be made and distributed through out the country especially in
schools to educated the young people about the importance using the
natural resources wisely in and around the forest resources which they
are part of.

The environemental threat posters covers a range of environmental destruction topices written in 'Tok Pisin' and made simple for everybody to understand with arrows and simple drawings of photographs.

In November 2007 Mr. Toni Karolus a student from the university Of Goroka went in to all the communities in Crater Mountain and explained what the posters imply and relate it to how the people should use their environment sustainably.
Clan land boundary mapping is one of the main activities being undertaken by RCF- Crater Project. The aim of this activity is to indicate the boundaries of each clan and what portion of their land they have set aside as conservation areas.
In this activity, the land use patterns of the people will also be shown. Clan boundary mapping activity is being undertaken by Stanley Jacob the Mapping Officer. Work is currently being done in Haia and maps have been produced. Once the entire Haia area is mapped out, work will begin in the other villages in CMWMA.

To know how effectively Crater Project is running its activities in CMWMA, an independent community survey is done. This independent community survey is an annual activity which is done towards the end of each year. During the survey two people, a male and female are sent to each community to spend a week in each community so that they could gauge the views of people in the community.
Once this is done they compile a report which they give to RCF. RCF – Crater Project then based on this report plans its activities for the next year. Basically this survey is done to assist RCF in terms of avoiding misunderstandings as well as to cooperate well to achieve and implement whatever the activities that Crater Project carries out or intends to carry out in the communities in CMWMA.
This news letter is published quarterly for the people of CMWMA as well as partner organizations, donors, individuals etc. The news letter is intended to keep the people informed and updated on what the activities are in Crater Mountain.
